And again: hi folks!

Now flo merged my patches to trunk (yeah). These patches are adding mod_log_sql and mod_fcgid to SysCP.

mod_log_sql tries to solve the problem which may occur if you have many "speciallogfile" - domains. Apache sometimes quits with: "Too many open files". With mod_log_sql we save the access_log temporarily in the database (and extract it later in the cronscript). For more informations, please look into our wiki.

mod_fcgid switches to FastCGI/suexec/libnss_mysql for PHP usage. This allows very granular PHP-settings for each domain. Disabling PHP per user is available now, too (also for mod_php ;) ). The installation-documentation will follow soon (needs to be prettyprinted).

Both changes are disabled by default, since they need a changed and special apache-configuration.

Have fun with this!

So long,
Florian

Yesterday I finished the conversion of our documentation from LaTeX to DocBook. Took me 3 hours for the Debian Etch and SUSE Linux - howto. Ron spent his night for creating a nice stylesheet and now we have an up-to-date howto for Debian Sarge, Debian Etch and SUSE Linux 10.0. The now outdated LaTeX - documentation was deleted right after the commit of the DocBook - documentation.

Hopefully I can dig into the SysCP - code soon, has been a while since the last coding-session :(.

So long,
Florian

As I said in my last post, I thought about converting the documentation into docbook. Just for fun I tried it with our smallest HowTo (the SUSE 10.0 - Installation). Now it's completed and in my eyes it's very simple to write and style. Since I got rather good feedback, I'll convert the other HowTos as well and delete the LaTeX - documentation. The result can be found here.

That's it for the moment, now I have much work in front of me *g*.

So long,
Florian

    hi folks,
every now and then there are questions like: "in Debian, cant syscp be dependent on php5" and for sure 5 min. later the head of the opposite party will scream: "my application bim_bam_boing still needs php4 !"

what to do ?!

Solution: pretty soon we will be able to serve both sides. We will have an either/or switch regarding php4/php5, means you can choose among them. At the Moment we are performing excessive Installation-Tests to learn more about this change in dependencies. It seems we should declare a sort of "default" switch to point on the latest version (=php5) at least on fresh installs. Of course, the same thing will apply to Apache, where you can then not only choose between Apache 1.3 / Apache2 but also between (Apache2-)mpm-prefork/mpm-worker. Certainly the default pointer is on Apache2.

You can make combinations of PHP4/5 at one side and Apache 1/2 at the other :)

Documentation-change for the Etch HowTo is going on presently. The bad news: this change will be effective in Etch only, although Flo might release all that before Etch is stable(in order to have a short period of testing too)
best regards Ron
